Damian Taylor is rapidly becoming globally
recognised as one
of the most exciting, dynamic and successful young
coaches
in the world of golf today.
His recent contribution to the meteoric
improvement in the game of Pablo Larrazabal (where,
since beginning their professional relationship in
Febuary 2011, his Golf World Ranking has risen from
384th to 74th, he beat Sergio Garcia in a play-off
to win the 2011 BMW International Open in Munich,
and has achieved a career-high ranking of 10th on
the European Tour "Race to Dubai" Order of Merit)
has been well documented but, far from being an
overnight sensation, his role in these successes has
been established over the many years Damian has been
involved at the very highest levels of the sport.
After the most illustrious of amateur and
professional playing careers where, whilst becoming
a qualified member of the PGA in 1996, he won
numerous national honours and competed
internationally on the European Challenge tour, it
became apparent to all that met Damian that his true
talents lay in coaching.
As a consequence of his burgeoning reputation,
Damian was recruited by David Leadbetter to operate
his DLGA Academy at Sentosa, Singapore in 2002 and,
whilst gaining full DLGA certification in 2004,
became coach to Asian Tour Stars Mardan Mamat and
Lam Chih Bing, as well as being given the huge
honour of being appointed coach to the Singaporean
Men’s and Ladies National teams. These
responsibilities were combined with regular trips to
DLGA HQ at Championsgate, where he worked alongside Leadbetter in developing the games of US and
European Tour stars Ernie Els, Nick Price, Charles
Howell III, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose.
Damian returned to the UK in 2005 upon being invited
by Nick Dougherty to become his full-time coach and
across the years this partnership was active, their
work together saw Nick's World Golf Ranking soar to
a best of 47th and produced victories in the 2007
Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the 2009 BMW
International Open whilst, most importantly,
engineering the consistent improvement and success
required to establish Nick as one of the hottest
properties in the game today.
This spectacular progress inevitably caught the
attention of many, amongst them Bradley Dredge who,
upon deciding to retain Damian's services in mid
2009, saw his Race to Dubai rankings rocket by 100
places and include a 2nd place finish at the 2009
Omega Masters.
The hugely-talented young Professional, Sam Hutsby,
also became a client in 2009 and, with the benefit
of Damian's experience, expertise and guidance, was
able to achieve massive success in his first 4
European Tour events, going on to secure his full
European Tour card for the 2010 season.
As well as those mentioned previously, his students
have included Colin Montgomerie, Darren Clarke, Ian
Woosnam, Richard Finch, Steve Webster, Jamie
Donaldson, Robert Rock, and Lee Slattery, but don't
think that you have to be one of the world's best
golfers to benefit from Damian's talents!
